Momigami Workshop - February 28th 10am - 4pm

Learn the ancient Japanese art of Momigami (moh-mee-GAH-mee) transforming ordinary paper into soft, durable, fabric-like material through konnyaku starch and kneading.
You will walk away with custom book cloth, a mixed media scroll, and all the skills you need to continue creating Momigami Style!
Pre-Workshop

Konnyaku Prep Class (45 min - 1 hour)
Master the crucial first step! Your Konnyaku Starch-Sauce needs time to set up!
We'll mix and prepare the Konnyaku paste together so you're confident and ready for Saturday. This prep class covers setup, supplies, and the chemistry behind the technique.
Live/Online & Recorded and available for playback if you can't join us Friday.
Saturday, February 28 from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM MST
Create pieces while learning the complete Momigami process.
In this class you will become confident in every step of the process, you'll want to follow along and have all the supplies handy, not just watch.
10:00 AM — Introductions, Momigami prep & application, konnyaku, Q&A. Papers demonstrated: fine Japanese papers, marbled papers, collage paper, and more!
11:00 AM — Crumpling time! Let's transform those lovely papers together.
12:00-12:30 PM — Lunch Break
12:30 — Demonstration of Momigami book cloth applications. I'll demo Momigami on Book Board, then together we will make a simple pamphlet stitch book cover.
Break
1:30 PM — Introduction to the Momigami Scroll and why this material is perfect for mixed media.
2:00 PM — Momigami Scroll creation together (mixed media, drawing, painting, stitching)
3:30-4:00 PM — Wrapping up, Show & Tell
What You'll Create
- Momigami papers using different paper types (strong Japanese papers, text weight, light weight paper)
- Custom book cloth cover — adhered and finished
- Mixed media scroll — incorporating mixed media, stitching, painting, drawing; showcasing what momigami can do that other papers can't

- Konnyaku powder for 2 batches (You will use one of these for the Workshop)
Each batch of Konnyaku paste is enough for 20+ letter sized sheets of paper - PDF and Video Instructions
- 5 sheets of assorted papers
- 1 Momigami paper sample (kuzo paper already transformed)
Momigami & Scroll Deluxe Kit — $65 (shipping included, not refundable)
- Konnyaku powder for 4 batches (You will use one of these for the workshop)

- Long JapanesePaper for your scroll

Additional Supplies Needed:
Your kit will have papers that easily fit your book cover.
Bring YOUR OWN Papers that you would like to Momigami
Basic bookbinding supplies (PVA glue, brush, bone folder, awl, linen thread, needle)
Mixed media supplies (Your favorite fast drying paint, pens, markers, gelli plate etc... )
Plastic dish and Hake or chip brush for Konnyaku Sauce.
